Origins

ExecRx™ originated from the innovative environment of i-Cubed™, a center for clinical research innovation at the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI). i-Cubed™ focuses on incubating solutions to clinical research challenges and assessing their feasibility as independent businesses.

ExecRx™ was the first venture to spin out from i-Cubed™, specializing in the placement of fractional medical executives and advisors into healthcare and research companies.

Micky Cohen-Wolkowiez, MD PhD

Founder and CEO

Micky has over 15 years of experience in clinical research, drug development, innovation, and leadership. He has led projects with more than $200 million in federal and industry funding. Micky has consulted for over 25 industry partners and served as a fractional chief medical officer for Lightship Inc.

He holds a medical degree from the Central University of Venezuela, completed his pediatric residency at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, and a pediatric infectious disease fellowship at Duke University. He also has a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from UNC, Chapel Hill.

Currently, Micky is a Distinguished Professor at Duke University where he leads i-Cubed, the Center for Clinical Research Innovation at the Duke Clinical Research Institute.

Outside of work, he enjoys playing tennis and pickleball, reading historical fiction books, eating plenty of plantains, and admiring art.

Sarah Firman, MSW M.Ed

Sarah is a leader in People, Talent, and Culture. She serves as a Fractional Chief People Officer and Senior Advisor to healthcare startups, and has held multiple Chief People Officer roles.

Sarah began her career in executive search, building executive teams for healthcare companies, and previously worked as a clinical social worker in New York City. She holds an MSW from Columbia University, an M.Ed from the University of Hawaii, and a BA from Pepperdine University.

Outside of work, Sarah enjoys time with her two children, practicing yoga, and finding the best coffee in any city she visits.

Jennifer Anderson, J.D.

Legal Counsel

Jennifer Anderson brings more than a decade of experience supporting biopharma and life-science organizations across the full development spectrum; from early preclinical strategy through commercialization. At ExecRx, she leads our contracting function and serves as a deeply embedded legal partner, offering practical, flexible solutions that help teams move quickly while staying grounded in sound legal guidance.

Jen began her career at a boutique Chapel Hill law firm focused on the life sciences before establishing her own practice advising emerging companies. She earned her B.A. in Classics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her J.D. from UNC School of Law.

Outside of work, Jen enjoys traveling, hiking, and cultivating an impressive variety of tomatoes in her home garden.

Bailey Arkinson

Logistics Coordinator

Bailey has experience supporting early-stage startups through venture-focused coursework and entrepreneurial assistant roles at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also has experience in digital marketing and design, creating visual and client-facing content.

Bailey is the Logistics Coordinator at ExecRx, where she supports advisor onboarding, scheduling, and internal operations, to ensure smooth execution across engagements.

She is currently studying Business Administration with minors in Entrepreneurship and Philosophy, Politics & Economics (PPE), and has completed international business coursework through IE Business School in Madrid.

Outside of work, Bailey enjoys running outdoors, drawing, and spending time on the water.
